I became a mom for the first time five years ago.
A year and a half later another little one came along.
And a year and a half after that a third little one.
And almost two years later our fourth sweet babe.
It makes me smile thinking about the type of mom I've become in the past five years.
From up-tight to laid back.
I grew up in a home with lots of siblings.
Being around newborns wasn't a stretch for me.
I was comfortable taking care of infants.
I naturally assumed that having my own little one would be a piece of cake.
Obviously it couldn't be any different than babysitting.
Right?
I read books, soaked up advice from other women and set my expectations high.
I was determined to have a baby who slept through the night by six weeks, nursed like a champ at all the right times, was never fussy and who never got diaper rashes.
Would you believe that my first, second and third babies didn't follow any of these expectations?!
My firstborn didn't sleep through the night until she was eight months old.
My second baby was around nine months old.
And my third...well...he still wakes up every now and then.
I read and re-read the books that told you how to get them to sleep through the night.
I asked for advice from women whose babies had all slept through the night at an early age.
I cried and felt like I was doing something terribly wrong.
And then after beating myself up as a first time mom I finally came to a beautiful conclusion.
Each baby is different.
Each family is different.
Each mom is different.
And to just do what works best for you!
So simple yet so hard to grasp as a first time mom.
And then after beating myself up as a first time mom I finally came to a beautiful conclusion.
Each baby is different.
Each family is different.
Each mom is different.
And to just do what works best for you!
So simple yet so hard to grasp as a first time mom.
And would you believe that even after having four babies in five years that they still get diaper rashes?
It was one of those things where I had to realize it's going to happen.
And the best thing I could do as a mom was to be prepared.
I tried all sorts of diaper creams.
Each one seemed to just "mask" the problem.
I had several friends recommend Boudreaux's Butt Paste.
I bought myself a big tube and since that day it's been my go-to booty cream!
I have used it for the past five years on all three of my babies.
And I plan to use it again with baby number four as well!
I love how it goes on smoothly.
A lot of the other creams that I had tried were too thick and hard to spread around.
Boudreaux's is the perfect consistency!
I also love the smell of it.
Pleasant and not too mediciney (totally a made-up word..but you get the point!).
Whenever one of my babies gets a diaper rash I do the following little routine.
Rinse the sore booty with warm water.
Then I let them air dry with no diaper on for a good five minutes or so.
This can obviously be a tad dangerous since a baby with no diaper can be a ticking time bomb.
Once their bottom is good and dry I smear generous amounts of Boudreaux's all over.
And a couple rounds of doing this and their buns are back to normal in no time at all!
Head on over to Boudreaux's Butt Paste Facebook page to learn more about their products!
And for your viewing pleasure a silly little movie about Boudreaux's :)

When my boy was little and happened to get diaper rash, I tried to let him go without a diaper for as long as possible...I hated the smell of diaper rash cream and hated the way it spread. it just stuck and dragged on his skin. with no diaper, he spent lots of time in the bath!

I don't have any experience with diaper rash.... YET! We're expecting our first - a baby boy - at the end of May. I've added Boudreaux's to my registry!!

ReplyDeletewe've (knock on wood) only had a quick bought with diaper rash in our 6.5 months so far... i'm a bit crazy about diaper changes & we do love our butt paste! :) (now lets hope I didn't jinx myself!!)
ReplyDeleteI liked using Butt Paste too... sometimes my little girl has an especially sore rash that I learned was a little more complicated and took a long time to go away. Once I figured out what it was, I used a little bit of Lotrimin anti-fungal and it quickly dried up. Rashes are hard, and I was always thankful when it was over!
ReplyDeleteI'm having my first baby in June - so no tips yet, but I'm looking forward to reading them from all the other moms!
ReplyDeleteI am a first time mom with a baby on the way this summer, so although I don't have any of my own home remedies yet, I have heard amazing things about butt paste!
ReplyDeleteWe use a homemade diaper cream that has always worked for us, but we do have Bourdeaux's in the diaper bag!
ReplyDeletedemureprincess7(at)gmail(dot)com
I totally use Boudreaux's too! Luckily my babies don't get diaper rash too often, but it comes on fast and furious when it comes. I wash off their bottoms with a warm rag, or let them soak in a warm tub, then let them air dry before a generous amount of Boudreaux's and a diaper, also, I try my best to keep them in clean diapers all the time!
