Thrifty Thoughts

posted on: Wednesday, January 9, 2013

One of my favorite things to do is to sit around with girlfriends
and talk about ways we can save money for our families.
Nerdy. Yes.
But I can't help but love it!

There's something about making our dollars stretch each month that is so exciting to me.
And as a family living on one income it's also a necessity.

Last year around this time I began a series on the blog called Thrifty Thoughts.
It's been awhile since I've posted anything under it.
Between moving houses for the second time in a year, being pregnant
and getting through football season I honestly didn't feel very "thrifty".
The past five months we've eaten out ALOT.
And I've not been so careful with how our extra money has been spent.

We're finally settled into our new home and I'm feeling like it's time to get back in the swing of things!
I've spent the past week fine-tuning our budget and am excited to find extra ways to save our money.

Now this is where you guys come in!!!
I'm going to be doing something a little bit different on the blog.

Starting NEXT Thursday (the 17th)
I will be hosting a Thrifty Thoughts Link-up.
Like I said... I love brainstorming with girlfriends ways we can save money.
It doesn't matter if you stay at home, if you work, if you're rich, if you're poor,
if you're married, if you're single, if you have kids or if you don't.
We all have money and I'd say it's safe to say that we all love to save that money one way or another.
Yes?!
Whether it be to make ends meet each month or to save up for something fun to buy.

What can you link up?
Any blog post that has to do with saving money in one way or another!
I don't want this to be something that has to be hard.
Any tips will work!
Here are a few ideas:

-Inexpensive Recipes
-Ideas on how to grocery shop
-Couponing
-Ways to save on household cleaners
-Decorating ideas on a budget
-Great ways to save on clothing

Seriously...the skies the limit!
My hope is that through the Link-Up we can build a Thrifty Thoughts community.

A place where we can encourage one another to live within our means.
A place where we can encourage one another to be resourceful with what we have.
A place where we can encourage one another to be creative and to think outside the box.
A place where we can encourage each other to be content with what we have.

We live in a society where bigger is better and having more is what is expected.
A society that feels entitled to have everything.
I don't know about you but I am tired of it.
I want to live simply yet creatively.
I want my first thought every time I make a purchase to be "is this a need or a want?"
I want to be able to save our money so that we can have more to give away.

I would absolutely love for you to join in the link-up next week.
Girlfriends, let's get together to encourage one another and to find ways to cut costs!
Let's bless our families and others around us with the money that we save :)

So.. next Thursday, January the 17th.
And every Thursday after that!

There's one more little twist to all of this.
I have created a hashtag on Instagram for you to use!

#TVTthriftythoughts
(the TVT stands for The Vanilla Tulip;) )

If you don't have time to create a blog post then put a little something on Instagram!
I will be featuring a few of the Instagram pics as well as their descriptions
at the bottom of each weeks Thrifty Thoughts linkup.

So there you have it.
I'm really excited to get new ideas from you guys!

Start brainstorming something you can share and I look forward to reading your tips next Thursday!

We "only" have 4 kids at home this year (including 2 teens), and we are keeping our grocery budget under $500/month . . . usually around $400-450.

I look forward to linking up.

Hope you have a blessed rest of the week!

    1. I'm at stay-at-home homeschooling mom to 12 kids, and my husband was a teacher of 20+ years. I have learned ALL about how to be thrifty . . . back when we were thought to be "poor" rather than "thrifty".
