Tree Day

The first Saturday after Thanksgiving is Tree Day at our house.
We designate the whole day to cutting down a tree and decorating it as a family.
This year we tried a new tree farm and it most definitely did not disappoint!
They had a covered wagon ride, petting zoo, tree maze and a great playground.
This was the first year that the kids were really into picking out the perfect tree.
And it was also the first year where we didn't have to carry a baby through the fields.
It was kind of a weird feeling having all three walk along by themselves.
We picked out a sweet little five foot tree this year.
The perfect height for the kids to decorate by themselves!
On the way home we stopped and filled our bellies up at a new little burrito shop in town.
After burritos we headed home and tucked everyone four and under in for naps.
Part of our tradition is that while the kids are napping we
put the lights on the tree so that when they wake up it's ready to be decorated!
This was also the first year where I let the kids decorate the tree entirely by themselves.
I just sat on the couch and handed them ornaments.
It was kind of a bittersweet moment...realizing they were big enough...
but also realizing that they aren't little toddlers anymore.
About halfway through the decorating Colt lost interest.
Emma on the other hand was SO into decorating the tree.
I loved watching her find just the right spot for each ornament. :)
It's been a great day.
A memory making kind of day filled with lots of laughs, fresh air and quality time.
All three babes are sound asleep in their beds for the evening.
Travis has fallen asleep on the couch next to me.
And my brain is slowly shutting down too.
Off to bed.
Here's to the beginning of Christmas season...
I think it's going to be a good one:)

  6. Something about the simplicity of a tree that is decorated by the kids is so enticing and appealing. my kiddos are only 2 years old and 3 months so I will have to remember that for when they get a bit bigger.

  7. There is something so enticing about the simplicity of a tree decorated by just the children. I will definitely have to remember this for when my kiddos are old enough.
