My brain is tired tonight... I had already headed to bed once but I couldn't stop thinking about our day.
As most of you know I headed to Wal-mart with the babies today to get our "two-weeks" worth of groceries.
For some reason I always feel like I learn a life lesson when I shop at Wal-Mart.
Absolutely ridiculous I know.
Last time we went shopping I learned the importance and value of a simple smile.
I had just begun my shopping in the produce section.
All three kids were in my giant cart.
As we came around the corner I heard a man say something about trying to find his favorite lunch meat.
I thought nothing of it until we were by the lunch meat aisle with him.
I heard him say again he had a favorite kind of ham lunch meat but didn't know which one.
I just happened to glance over and realized he was blind.
The man had been talking to an employee of the store who was helping him with his groceries.
The employee was pushing his cart and picking out his foods for him to purchase.

I was immediately hit with the guilt of taking my sight for granted.
I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I thought about my vision much less being thankful for it.
I couldn't imagine not being able to see my babies or Travis.
Not being able to see creation around me.
Not being able to drive.
I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I thought about my vision much less being thankful for it.
I couldn't imagine not being able to see my babies or Travis.
Not being able to see creation around me.
Not being able to drive.
Not being able to read.
Not being able to see your favorite lunch meat, pull it off the shelf, throw it in your cart and go on your way.
I am blessed.
It was definitely an eye opener in thankfulness.
And also an eye opener when it comes to complaining or grumbling.
And also an eye opener when it comes to complaining or grumbling.
"Grocery shopping with three kids is such a chore. This is so much work!"
I'm sure that man would have gladly wheeled my three kiddos around and gotten a million weeks worth of groceries if he could have seen while doing so.
Blah. Shame on my complaining attitude.
Whether it be a "light" complaining or not.

Blah. Shame on my complaining attitude.
Whether it be a "light" complaining or not.
Whether it just be complaining to yourself or to a friend.
Complaining is complaining.
Complaining is complaining.
And I am the guilty queen of complaining silently to myself.
Yuck.
Yuck.
"I hate putting my laundry away."
I'm sure that man would love to be able to see what clothes go in what drawer.
I'm sure he would love to be able to fold colored socks with like colored socks.

My heart is thankful tonight.
For my vision.
And for an eye opener on subtle complaining and grumbling.
For my vision.
And for an eye opener on subtle complaining and grumbling.
I wonder what valuable lesson I will learn at Walmart on our next trip :)
Psalm 136:1
"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good,
for His steadfast love endures forever."

ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing! I read this post right before I went to church to teach my junior high girls sunday school class. I told them about your post at the end of our lesson and it turned in to an amazing discussion and a challenge for them this week.
ReplyDeleteI love how the Lord speaks to us in the smallness of over hearing a man talking... It makes me wonder how often i miss the still small voice speaking the WORD.... Give thanks to the Lord!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteNew recipe for you, SUPER easy and it's a big hit with my family!
ReplyDeleteItalian Chicken
1 block of cream cheese (softened)
1 can cream of chicken soup
1/2 cup italian dressing
3 to 4 chicken breasts
Instant rice
Mix first three ingredients together in a bowl. Place chicken in crock pot then pour mixture over chicken. Cook on low for 5 to 6 hours, serve over cooked rice. (I actually shred the chicken once it's done, it goes farther and even leaves enough for leftovers.)
Blessings!
