Foil and Pictures

Alright.... so I am ALL about people sharing handy tips that might make my life a little easier. So... it's my turn to share two handy tips with you!
The first little tip that I must share with you is in regards to aluminum foil and plastic/saran wrap.
Now, until about a year ago I would fight with the foil/plastic wrap as I was pulling it out of the box.  The whole roll would come out as I was pulling and it was just a mess.
UNTIL my mother-in-law Tricia told me about the handy little push-in tab on the sides of the box.  Simply push it in and it holds the roll in place.  HELLO.... how did I not know about this?!  Have you known about this handy feature?

Second tip of the day is in regards to the size of the pictures you post on your blog.
(Stephanie...this one is for you)

Now... if you use Blogger and your pictures are teeny tiny and you don't know how to enlarge them...
then worry no more!!!  It's not me.  Here's what you do.

Log into your blog.
Once you are logged in click on Settings.
Scroll down to the very bottom of the screen.
Under Global Settings click on Updated Editor (chances are you are stuck in old editor like I was)
Then click Save Settings.

And VOILA! That's it! So now when you upload pictures to your post it gives you the option of enlarging your pictures. So...say goodbye to the tiny itty bitty pictures that y'all have been posting.  Drives me crazy when I can't be nosey and see what's in the background of your pictures :)

Okay people...if you have any random tips for me please do share! I would love to hear!

Father's Day Recap

Happy Wednesday everyone!
Hard to believe the weekend is almost here again!

I don't know about where everybody lives but it is HOT HOT HOT here in Texas.
We've been staying inside for the most part trying to keep cool the past couple of days!  Although it's sweltering outside this is one of my favorite times of the year around the little blue cottage.  The reason being is around the perimeter of our yard are eight gigantic, hot-pink, crepe myrtle trees that bloom right around now!  The blooms are just beginning to open up...when they're in full bloom I'll take a picture for y'all to see!

We spent Father's Day evening with Trav's parents and grandmother.  His dad is a phenomonal cook/griller and he made us the most delicious dinner!  Grilled tuna, blackened hybrid, a Greek salad and garlic butter bread.  He seriously could open a restaurant it is THAT good!

This picture was taken before church on Sunday morning.

                                                        Opening Father's Day gifts...

And while the gifts were being opened this little girl was busy helping herself to a piece of chocolate :)

Off to fold my never-ending pile of laundry!

Stay tuned for the next post... it will have a few handy tips in it...

A week!?

And yes.. another week has almost passed since the last post!
This week was FULL FULL FULL to the brim!
Our mornings were spent at VBS and my afternoons were spent teaching swimming lessons.

It was this little munchkins first year of VBS. I didn't realize until we got there on Monday
but she was put in my class!

A full week of VBS= A full week of WONDERFUL naps!! :)

On Monday night we went out for Mexican.  Down by the restaurant there is a fountain display that Em likes to run through.  She had so much fun that Trav thought it would be a good idea to take her to the park when we got home.  He wanted to take Emma fishing and also to run through the spray park....

She had a great time fishing with Trav and running through the park's spray area until she fell and landed flat on her face.  Poor thing didn't know what hit her.  Trav said she cried for a minute and then asked if they could go home to watch Bug's Life.  He called me on their way home and told me to be prepared with a wet rag.  Poor kid's face was raw from under her nose all the way into her mouth on her gums.  Her lips were so swollen she looked like a duck :)  I'm so thankful she didn't knock any of her teeth out!

She requested that she put on two princess band-aids

We discovered this little guy LOVES Oreos!!!  The little piggie could eat them all day if I would let him :)

The next few weeks will be house fixing game time around here.  We're going to be working like crazy to get a few re-dos done on our little blue cottage before football season begins.  Our home was built in the late 1800s so we're slow but sure doing projects here and there.  Our tentative goals for the next month are to redo the original floors, de-popcorn the living room ceiling (it's out of control...somebody LOVED them some spray much they even popcorned the trim. sick.) and fix and paint the outside of the house.  And also within this month we'll be joining my mom's side of the family for a week filled with camping and celebrating my grandparent's 50th.  I can hardly wait!

So if the blog posts become a little more infrequent you'll know why!!!  So much to do so little time! :)

Hope everybody has a great weekend!!!
Father's Day post coming...

Treasures and Thoughts on Bridesmaid Dresses

The weekend is almost over and for the first time in a long while I can say that this weekend did NOT fly by!  Not in a bad way though!  Travis went to the coast this weekend with his dad and friend to go fishing.  So the kids and I had the whole weekend to play and do whatever.
Something about him being gone makes the days seem SO inredibly long! And it doesn't help that for some reason the kids feel like they need to get up at 6 every morning when he's gone?!  Yesterday morning they woke up at 6...I cleaned the house...we played outside...I hung laundry on the clothes line...we ate lunch...and then I called my mother-in-law to see if she wanted to join us at the pool.  I told her we had already eaten lunch and were ready to go whenever.  She acted surprised that we had eaten lunch so I glanced at the clock and it was only 10:45.  :)
After naps yesterday I took the kids for icecream at Braums to burn a little time.  We only burned 10 minutes because they both ate their icecream in record time.  Tricia (my mother-in-law) and I were talking today about how when the Texas heat hits you can either go swimming or you need to stay inside.  Going on walks, to the park, playing outside are pretty much out of the question when the heat picks up.  That is unless you choose to die of a heat stroke.

The past two weekends I have found some fabulous treasures at garage sales!

I found this dresser last weekend for $10!  My tentative plan is to use it in either the living room to put our tv on or in the dining room as a serving piece.  I'm still not sure what color I'm going to paint it.  I'm leaning toward a pale blue or cream with distressing.

I found this tray (not sure what it really is?) for $5 yesterday.  It's very big (over 3 ft long), heavy and well built.  The handles on either side are made out of navy rope.  My plan for it is to put it along the center of my kitchen table with perhaps some thick pillar candles in it.  Not sure yet... any ideas?

I have been wanting white dishes for over a year.  The dishes we currently have are Fiestaware that I have collected over the years.  I love them but was wanting something a little more simple and plain.  I've looked at white dish sets here and there but haven't wanted to spend the money.  I found all of these white dishes for $10 yesterday!  The best part is once I brought them home and began to wash them I discovered about half of them are Ironstone dishes!

Last but not least I would love to hear your opinions and thoughts on the following subject.

Do you think the bride should pay for the bridesmaids' dresses or the bridesmaids foot the bill themselves?

My younger sister has been asked to be in several weddings and I was surprised that both brides asked her to pay for her own dress and shoes.  In my opinion if you as the bride are going to ask someone to be in your wedding you should at least buy their dress for them.  I understand that can get expensive when buying dresses for quite a few girls but that's where you draw the line as to how many bridesmaids you can have.  Perhaps it wouldn't be as bad if you as the bride picked a color and had all the bridesmaids find a dress they loved and would wear again.
You definitely don't have to be rich to buy your bridesmaid dresses.  I found mine on for $40 a piece! And we found shoes at Payless for $8 a pair! In my opinion they all looked beautiful!  So what are your thoughts on this?  I personally think it's very tacky...perhaps I'm just old-fashioned in my thinking.  Is it something that everybody is doing these days?

Here are my bridesmaids in their dresses.  We got married in October so I chose a dark chocolate brown for their dresses.

The babes are napping and Trav is finally on his way home!  I'm thinking pizza delivery is on the menu for tonight!
Hope everybody had a great weekend!!!

Banana Crumb Muffins, Booboos, Teeth and HAPPY BIRTHDAY Uncle Tim!

Is it Wednesday?! I've been walking around all day thinking it was Thursday.  I finally realized what day it was when I looked at the calendar (around 2pm) and not only did I realize it was Wednesday (not Thursday)... but also June 9th... which is my little brother's 15th birthday!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TIM!  He's working at a camp right now as a camp counselor. I am so proud of him!  He is such an awesome young man and a wonderful uncle to my babes.  We love you Uncle Tim :)

This morning for breakfast Emma and I made Banana Crumb Muffins.  This is the BEST banana muffin recipe I have ever tried!  I got it from my good friend Amanda.  She said she had found the recipe here.  The muffins are very moist and the crumb topping gives them a different twist.
And of course they tasted even better this morning because I had a happy little helper in pjs helping me :)

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
 3 bananas, mashed
3/4 cup white sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten
 1/3 cup butter, melted
 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon butter

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease 10 muffin cups, or line with muffin papers.

In a large bowl, mix together 1 1/2 cups flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. In another bowl, beat together bananas, sugar, egg and melted butter. Stir the banana mixture into the flour mixture just until moistened. Spoon batter into prepared muffin cups.

In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, 2 tablespoons flour and cinnamon. Cut in 1 tablespoon butter until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Sprinkle topping over muffins.

Bake in preheated oven for 18 to 20 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into center of a muffin comes out clean.

Colt is beginning to look more and more like a little boy and not a baby.
Babies don't have bumps and bruises... little boys do :)

He fell out of the wagon this morning while I was hanging clothes on the clothes line.  He landed face first in a pile of dirt.  At bathtime this evening I was STILL cleaning dirt out of his ears, eyes and nose holes. :)

Speaking of bathtime a favorite evening ritual around here is to brush our teeth.  Not a joke.  Emma gets extremely upset if we forget.  Is it bad if sometimes I try to "forget" because I'm to tired to brush their teeth?  And is it bad that some days I wish she hated brushing her teeth instead of luuuuuving it? :) And just to clarify... she not only brushes her teeth in the evenings.  But in the mornings after breakfast and also after lunch.  All her idea.  Perhaps she'll be a dentist.

Colt just started using his toothbrush not to long ago.
And please ignore the tattered towel in the background... it has been well used :)

Side Note: Blogger is doing something crazy with the layout of my words and pics.  Some of the words are lined up along the pics.. not sure what the deal is?! Sorry if it's hard to read :)
Off to bed! Happy Thursday everyone!

Five Days and Lunch Time Faves

I didn't realize that it had been five days since I had last updated until I checked just a minute ago.
It seems that since summer has officially started I've become alot more busy?! A good busy though!
We've been spending every day at either the swimming pool we're members at or in our fancy kiddy swimming pool in the back yard ;)
Travis rigged up a fancy slide to go in our fancy kiddy swimming pool. :)

Emma really gets to flying down the slide.  I tried to take a picture of her coming down but every one that I had was a big blur.  It's a hoot to watch her!

I don't know about anybody else but I LOVE summer time lunches!  A sandwich, chips and a cold drink always taste like such a feast after you've been swimming!
I just discovered these chips the last time I was at the store.
They are SO delicious!!!! They have quite a few other flavors as well.  I want to try the Jalapeno next!

I've also started buying this cheese...

If you've never tried Muenster cheese you MUST.  It is my favorite!  It tastes delish on a turkey sandwich with mayo!
Emma's favorite cheese is Muenster cheese as well.  Every time she has it to eat she sings in a low voice...puts her arms out in front of her like Frankenstein... and sings "Monster cheese" It's hilarious :)

What are some of your favorites for summer lunches?

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer vacay!

Pancake Mix Coffee Cake, Book Worms and Challenger Interview

Ahhh...the last Wednesday of the school year here!  Then.... Schoooool's Out for the Summer!!! :)  I'm looking forward to having Trav home in the afternoons to go to the pool as a family!  We love every minute we can spend as a family in the summer. Once August hits with football season we won't hardly be able to spend time with him again until November.  It's either feast or famine! :)

I love to make a yummy breakfast when we are all home as a family.  The following recipe is one that my Mom shared with me.  It's not only DELISH but so quick and easy as well!

2 C. Pancake Mix
1/2 C. Sugar
1/4 C. Milk
1/4 C Vegetable Oil
1 Egg
Blueberries (optional)

Mix these ingredients together and pour into a greased 9x13.

3/4 C. Oats
1/3 C. Brown Sugar
1 tsp. Cinnamon
3 Tbsp. Butter

Mix these ingredients together and sprinkle over the top of the cake.

Bake @ 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.

*I like to add blueberries to our coffee cake when they're in season.  Add as many or as few you as you like to the cake batter!*

Yesterday I was tidying up around the house and realized that I didn't hear Emma and Macey.  I knew they had been playing back in Emma's room and when I peeked in this is what I found...

They sat on her bed and read for an HOUR!!!

Today over at 500 Miles in 2010 I had the honor of being the challenger that they interviewed this week.
Thanks Erin and Laura!

Off to find a late night snack... Goodnight everyone!

Long weekend

I'm back from the long weekend!  I do believe after this weekend I dare say that Memorial Day is one of my favorite holidays!  Not only is it a wonderful holiday to honor our troops (I am so proud to be an American!) but I LOVE LOVE LOVE having an extra day tacked onto a weekend!
Here's how we spent our weekend...

We spent the weekend barbequeing, relaxing and swimming!  It felt so good to be outside in the fresh air and sunshine!

I also spent part of the weekend reading this book

Francine Rivers is my favorite author and I don't know why I haven't ever read this book before! It's actually the first of three books.  It is definitely one of the best books I've ever read!  It's a fictional story of Hadassah from the Bible. Francine Rivers attention to details in her writing is incredible! Thanks to my Mom and Tricia for suggesting it!  It's a must read if you haven't already!

I believe there is a budding artist in my home.
I went to clean off Emma's little table where she eats and discovered this little creation of
 blueberries and cheese.

This little piggy LOVES chocolate cake!  Can you tell?

That's all for tonight!  Have a great Wednesday everyone!
